Design styles - modern to traditional
We work in all design styles, but here are the top four styles requested by our clients and how they are defined.
Traditional Design - Elegant, more formal, embellishments, and luxurious fabrics like silk, velvet, and mohair. Patterns are prevalent in window treatments, upholstery fabric, and rugs. Jewel tones are prevalent. Symmetry organizes the spaces with pairs of chairs and especially accessories. Each room has one central focal point. “New Traditional Style” is more pared down and uses current colors. Accessories are often layered and can include collections of antiques. Built-ins are a great way to express traditional style, from bookcases to window seats to china cabinets.

Modern Design - Clean lines, sleek, minimalist, and open floor plans. Function reigns over form as often only the necessities are on display. Paint colors are typically neutral. Colors are introduced in bold accents if at all. Fabrics are textural rather than patterned. Cottons and linens are popular.

Transitional Design - A mix of traditional and modern styles that results in understated elegance. Nothing is too bold or flashy. The focus is on refined, polished spaces that feel luxurious yet livable. Paint colors are often neutrals with color added in pillows, rugs, and upholstery fabrics. Classic furniture silhouettes but with updated fabrics. Stained wood furniture is used sparingly to add warmth. Metallics are often incorporated through lighting and accessories.

Eclectic Design - A curated mix of styles and design influences. Often eclectic designs include collections, art, travel mementoes, and vintage items which create a very personalized and unique space. A variety of textures in fabrics and rugs keeps it interesting. To use this style effectively, there should be a cohesion with colors or a theme.
